When at least two strong earthquakes shook Yunnan Province in China this summer, the GPAALC leapt into action. The earthquakes and their aftershocks killed hundreds people and damaged or destroyed tens of thousands of homes in the region. The Greater Philadelphia Asian American Lions Club has donated $500 to assist the earthquake victims in rebuilding their lives and their communities.
The GPAALC recently assisted several children and their families who arrived from China to seek treatment for Retinablastoma at Wills Eye Hospital and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
The Lions set up a fundraising table by the firehouse on a busy Saturday afternoon in Chinatown, and over $1,000 was raised to help the children and their families, with GPAALC board members leading the way in donations. After the event, Lioness Mabel Chen treated the children and their families to dim sum at her nearby Joy Tsin Lau Restaurant.
Our party last Sunday, celebrating the 4th anniversary of our Lions Club Charter, was a great success. Over 220 people attended, including DG Tony Mangabat and other Lion dignitaries, who helped induct new Lions Robert and Elizabeth. Thank you to everyone for their support!
